SW COLORADO, TELLURIDE

We hear about the storm last night that left our cabin without power.  Thanks to our friends we hear everything is OK.

After coffee and cereal we hike the dogs up to a waterfall so they can play.  People are amazed at their ability to retrieve rocks underwater. Then we bike the Idarado trail downstream and out of town.  That's the easy part.  Now we have to peddle up hill to get back to town.  We stop at the 'Brunching' for brunch and are treated to gourmet food.  Now it's more up hill to get to the top of town so we can visit the Telluride Historical Museum.  From there it's all downhill back to Town Park.

We meet Dennis, an Australian bicyclist who is wandering around camp and looking for a vacant site.  There are none so we invite him to share ours.  He is riding from San Francisco, California to Portsmouth, Virginia by himself. He wants to average 40 miles a day, but today he peddled 62 miles and climbed about 10,000 feet in elevation.  He is understandably exhausted.  We don't mention how tired we are after peddling 5 miles.  He says he has to eat about every hour so he can consume his 5,000 calorie a day diet.

We bike back into town for supper at the Appaloosa Trading Co., a combination western store and restaurant.  We return with a 24oz beer for Dennis and he is eternally grateful.  We sit around the non-camp-fire (because of the burn ban) and share adventure stories.  This man is 60 years old.  He has our complete admiration.
Aha, morning coffee.

Old Jail

Once known as Popcorn Alley these restored cribs housed the 'ladies of the night.'
