NORTHERN COLORADO, ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

We continue along the Peak to Peak Highway through vacation cabin land and into Estes Park.  This is a busy town and everybody seems to want to honk their horn at us.  We head west into Rocky Mountain National Park.  This is the most scenic road we have been on so far.  We climb to a high point of 12,183 feet before crossing Milner Pass (10,758 feet).  We stop at Poudre Lake which is the starting point for the Cache la Poudre River, the namesake for our precious little ankle biter.  We discover that dogs are not allowed on the trails in this park, so we head down the west side until we get to the Colorado River.  We start to hike up river to Lulu City but shortly turn around because we feel it's not fair to the dogs to have to leave them behind.  We take a campsite in the Kawuneeche Valley.
