CENTRAL COLORADO, MOUNT EVANS

We have a plumbing failure.  One of the shower fittings has broken.  We have to go all the way down to Golden before we can find a Home Depot to get repair parts.  The temperature  climbs to 80 degrees and I start to sweat for the first time since I've been in the Rockies.

Repairs made and we head back up Clear Creek toward Mt. Evans (14, 284 feet).  This is the highest paved road in the world.  We stop at Summit Lake for a dog walk.  We are now in an alpine ecosystem and I don't recognize anything.

Peggy decides to ride her bike to the summit (5.4 miles).  She makes it 3 miles before the 8 degree grade does her in.  she turns around and flys down the whole mountain (12 miles).  She doesn't stop until she gets to the ranger station.  She has the look of exuberance and cold fingers.  It's 25 degrees colder at the top.  We stay at Echo Lake campground at the foot of Mt. Evans.

Biking upward.

Peg's encounter with the mountain goats.

How can I get some of their shedding fiber?

Love these downhills.

Another beautiful day.
